Guitar Types

 Acoustic Guitars

Acoustic guitars depend on its body acoustics and not on an amplifying device. This type of instrument is mostly constructed in wood and is hollow near the bridge area. This empty space makes the sound vibrate and brings out life into the guitar. Acoustic guitars are used mostly for rhythm backup or clean leads. Electric Guitar

Electric Guitars are incomplete without amplification. Electric guitars require amplification to produce the required effect and depth. Though electric guitars can have solid, semi-solid bodies, they can only produce little sound without amplifying. Electric guitars contain an electromagnetic pickup which receives the vibration of the strings and converts them into electric signals which are sent to the amplifier through a cable. Before the signal reaches the amplifier, a small control board is attached to the bottom end of the guitar which can control the volume and tone of the guitar. Electric Guitars come in various shapes and sizes. Some of the famous guitars are:

  • Les Paul
  • The Stratocaster
  • Flying V
  • Maestro Mini V

Mini-V Electric Guitar Mini V electric guitars exist right from 1958. This miniature version of the famous V electric guitar is considered a favorite collection by many guitar fans. The mini-v was designed and patended by Gibson which is considered to be far ahead of its time for the design and the quality of electronics put in. The Mini V although is not preferred much for performances, is perfect for travel or to play on the move. Usually this is also purchased by young kids as it is much easier to reach out and handle on these frets. Recently, Gibson Foundation presented the Ronald McDonald House  a Maestro Electric Mini V Guitar among a Maestro Acoustic and two amplifiers.
